Governor Seyi Makinde’s Achievements in Roads

Provide adequate transport infrastructure and services for uniform socio-economic development in the state by embarking on reconstruction and rehabilitation of the existing roads and improving rural roads.

The Oyo State Government has constructed and reconstructed/rehabilitated a total of 545.26km of roads across Oyo State. The major roads are:

  • Construction of 76.7km Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso Road (ongoing). The road connects Oke-Ogun and Ogbomoso Zones.
  • Reconstruction of 45.3km Saki-Ogbooro-Igboho Road (ongoing). The road connects Saki West, Saki East and Oorelope Local Government Areas.
  • Reconstruction of 37.41km Beere- Olorunsogo-Amuloko-Akanran-Dagbolu Road (ongoing).
  • Reconstruction of 34.85km Oyo-Iseyin Road (ongoing). The road connects Oyo and Oke-Ogun Zones. It is also the main artery for accessing the Fasola Agribusiness Industrial Hub.
  • Reconstruction of 21km Airport-Ajia-New Ife Express Road with a spur to Amuloko (ongoing).
  • Dualisation of the 12.5km Challenge-Odo Ona Elewe-Apata Road (ongoing).
  • Reconstruction of 12km Apete-Awotan-Akufo Road into a rigid pavement road (ongoing).
  • Dualisation of 9.7km Saki Township Road (completed).
  • Construction of 9.23km Omi Adio -Ido Road.
  • Dualisation of 7.3km Agodi Gate-Old Ife-Adegbayi Junction with a spur to Alakia Airport, Ibadan (3.3km) (ongoing).
  • Dualisation of the 7.2-kilometre Idi Ape-Basorun-Akobo-Odogbo Barracks Road (completed).
  • Reconstruction of 5.2km Gedu-Oroki-Sabo-Asipa Road (completed).
  • Construction of General Gas Flyover (ongoing).
  • Reconstruction of the 15km BCJ-Railway-Gbekuba-NIHORT Junction, Ibadan (ongoing).
  • Dualisation of the 3.2km Ibadan Airport Road, rehabilitation of adjoining roads along the airport axis and rehabilitation of spur roads around Iwo Road Interchange including the road from Oludare to Bishop Phillips (2 km) (ongoing).
  • Dualisation of the 3.1km Olorunsogo Expressway, Ibadan (ongoing).
  • Reconstruction of the Isaba-Ogundoyin Road (0.75km) and Lanlate Garage Junction Local Government-Eruwa Poly- Oke Ola Junction Road, Eruwa (1.9km) (ongoing).

Upgrading of rural feeder roads in all the 33 local government areas of the state.

The Oyo State Government, through Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) had carried out various studies and survey on rural roads which had led to the digitization of 452.80km of rural roads for Spot Improvement, 687.60km of rural roads for routine maintenance and 187.25km rural roads for rehabilitation. The government made the counterpart funding of N350 million for RAAMP in July 2019 and is waiting for the disbursement of funds by the World Bank to commence the rehabilitations.

New roads to be built to enhance economic activities, promote rural-urban linkages and generally facilitate movement around the state.

In addition to the roads listed in No 5 above, in the past one year, Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration has executed the following road projects to facilitate movement around the state:

  • Reconstruction of Adegbayi Junction to the bus terminal stations at Iwo Road interchange along the proposed Ibadan-Ife Expressway rehabilitation project.
  • Reconstruction/rehabilitation of link roads to Ibadan/Lagos Expressway at General Gas and beside NNPC mega station, PDCOS Housing Estates, Akobo, Ibadan.
  • The asphaltic construction/rehabilitation Of Lasisi Apapa Street, Off Queen Elizabeth Road, Agodi, Ibadan.
  • Rehabilitation of Ecobank Bode Isalu-AHIS Road (5.5km).

Engage in private partnership to improve the road facilities.

Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration has been engaging with the private sector to improve road facilities. For example, the use of Alternative Project Funding Approach (APFA) to finance road projects.

  • With Fax Consult Ltd for Idi Ape-Basorun-Akobo-Odogbo Barracks Road (7.2km) dualisation project.
  • With Kopek Construction Ltd for the completion of outstanding construction works on the dualisation of Challenge-Odo Ona Elewe – Apata Road (12.5km) Section 1 and Section 2.
  • With Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Ltd for the; (i) Dualisation of Saki Township along Oke-Ogun Poly Road (9.7km) (ii) Reconstruction of the Airport-Ajia-New Ife Express Road with spur to Amuloko, Ibadan (21km). (iii) Rehabilitation and total asphaltic overlay of Kolapo Ishola GRA Road Network (16.96km) (iv) General Gas Flyover.
  • With CCECC Nig. Ltd. for the reconstruction of Saki-Ogbooro- Igboho Road (45.3km).
  • With Ahmak Nig. Ltd. for the reconstruction of Gedu-Oroki-Sabo-Asipa Road (5.2km).
  • With Still Earth Nig. Ltd. for the reconstruction/rehabilitation and sectional overlay of BCJ-Railway-Gbekuba-NIHORT Junction, Ibadan (4.15km).
  • With Kopek Construction Ltd for the reconstruction of the Oyo-Iseyin Road (34.85km)
  • With Brightlite Structures Ltd for the reconstruction of Isaba – Ogundoyin Road (0.75km) and Lanlate Garage Junction Local Government-Eruwa Poly- Oke Ola Junction Road, Eruwa (1.9km).

Provision of modern equipment to the Road Maintenance Agency.
