Governor Seyi Makinde’s Achievements in Youths and Sports

  1. Situational analysis of the current empowerment programmes.

  1. Vocational skills acquisition programme and entrepreneurial training.

The following are the vocational skills acquisition programmes and entrepreneurial trainings that have been carried out in the past one year:

  1. Capacity building on sustainable livelihood programme in Vocational and Entrepreneurship Development Programme for the Vulnerable Youths from 11th to 13th April, 2021 at Jos, Plateau State.
  2. Training and Empowerment with start-up kits between August – October, 2021.
  3. 3,300 youths trained in modern agrifood value chains under the Youth Entrepreneurship in Agribusiness Project (YEAP)
  4. Digital Skills Empowerment Programme Training for unemployed youth from 6th to 25th March, 2022 at the National Youth Development Centre, Ode-Omu, Osun State.
  5. Youth in Agriculture Empowerment Programme for unemployed youths from February 20 to March 4, 2022.
  6. Establishment of graduate youth employment scheme.

Not yet commenced though unemployed graduates benefit from specific programmes such as the Oyo State-IITA Agribusiness Incubation Park Centre at Aawe Town, Oyo which is running agribusiness training for unemployed young people including graduates.

  1. Establishment of integrated farm settlement schemes.

  1. Institute youth mobilization programmes.

The following are the mobilization programmes that have been instituted in the past one year:

  • Organisation of gender based psychological development programme on April 23, 2021.
  • Organisation of enlightenment programme for youths on drug abuse and cultism on April 26, 2021.
  • Presentation of annual grants to 68 registered Voluntary Youth Organisations on May 5, 2021.
  • Citizenship and Leadership Training Programme for Youth Leaders on September 7, 2021.
  • 2021 International Youth Day/Summit was organised in collaboration with National Youth of Nigeria, Oyo State Chapter on December 9, 2021.
  • The inauguration/first siting of the 2nd Assembly of the State Youth Parliament were organised on Thursday, February 2 and Wednesday, March 30, 2022 respectively.
  • Affirmation meeting on the National Action Plan on Youth, Peace and Security on Friday, August 27, 2021 in Abuja.
  • National Youth Conference between October 12 and 15, 2021 in Abuja.
  • Mentoring and Life Enhancement Programme for youth with disabilities from December 18-22, 2021 at the National Youth Development Centre, Ode-Omu, Osun State.
  • National Drug Abuse Reduction Intervention Projects (NDARIP) in Southern States of Nigeria held at Alebimoon City Hotel, Old-Ife Road, Ibadan from March 22-23, 2022.
  • 3-day sensitisation workshop on implementation of the Nigeria Online Youth Assembly (NOYA) to crowd source youth employment for the Southern region from April 11-12, 2022, at the National Youth Development Centre, Ode-Omu, Osun State.

12. Establishment of sports centres and facilities

Upgrade and construction of the following sports centres/facilities:

  • Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba
  • Construction of Mini Stadium Igboora, Ibarapa
  • Reconstruction of Olubadan mini stadium, Ibadan
  • Upgrade of Durbar Stadium, Oyo
  • Upgrade of Soun Stadium, Ogbomoso
  • Upgrade of Saki Township stadium
  • Remodelling of Ebedi Township Stadium, Iseyin

Also, the Bodija Recreation Centre, Ibadan is being constructed.
